"Give Me Your Free, Your Brave, Your Proud Masses Yearning to Conquer" by L. Scott Jose is a masterpiece of satire and Gary Phillips' "Thus Strikes the Black Pimpernel" is a tour de force that sticks the landing on the entire compendium.Each piece packs a surprise and takes wild chances. If a couple of stories are overwrought? Well, that's the whole point. This book, right down to the amazing artwork on the cover is pure fun.

The pitch for this anthology sounded right up my street – 15 stories where the basic instruction for each writer was: “Pick any conservative conspiracy theory about President Barack Obama – no matter how loopy – and just run with it.”The result – at least for me – is disappointing. For the most part, the stories here either aren’t very well written or don’t really follow the instructions – at least as far as I understood them. Maybe I misunderstood the overall premise, but it seems like at least half the stories here are less about exploring the fun fictional possibilities of Obama conspiracy theories and more wishful-thinking revenge tales where conservatives who badgered the Obamas for years finally get theirs – which is fine as far as it goes, but in my mind it isn't really in the spirit of the stated mandate. And what a Robert Silverberg story from 1982 is doing here is a mystery in itself.To be sure, there are a quite a lot of good ideas here – Michelle Obama as covert operative, Barack Obama leading a secret resistance movement after Trump goes full fascist, the true secret of Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s longevity, Obama and Biden as Star Trek time travellers – but not many develop into decent stories. Notable exceptions include Walter Mosley’s “A Different Frame of Reference”, which riffs on that photo of Obama sneaking a smoke (or was he?), and Christopher Chambers’ “The Psalm of Bo”, which gets points for coming up with the idea of Obama’s dog leading an army of weaponized dogs against the last MAGA stronghold in post-apocalyptic America – written in semi-Biblical language, no less.FULL DISCLOSURE: I didn't read the last few stories because the e-book crashed. Which I've never experienced with a hard-copy book. I'm just saying, those last ones might have helped put an extra star on this review.

A book sure to be disparaged by dullards and alt-right folks. For everyone else, this is dystopia for big kids at its best. Stories like Kate Flora's Michelle in Hot Water and Forked Tongue by Lise McClendon, are smart and can get the reader into wishful thinking mode. Several, including True Skin, A Different Frame of Reference and Sunburnt Country are scary in their dark possibility as future realities. Then There's Nisi Shawl's Evens, a story everyone who felt gypped by the Republicans after the Supreme Court vacancy debacle, will relate to. Some are straightforward reading, others, like The Paslm of Bo, require the reader's full attention in order to get rewarded at the end, but all in all, it's a darn good collection that will shock some, creep out many and leave most with fragments that will explode in their heads when they read or hear about political events in coming years.

In this fun, wacky, mind-bending collection, top-notch writers play with the concept of conspiracy about the presidency of Obama. Some really far-out ideas make this an interesting grouping, and show how different stories can be despite a similar theme. You never know if you'll meet super-spies, lizard-people, or be thrust into an apocalyptic landscape.Good writing and different ideas make this a book to be read, no matter what your political views, despite the negs from treason-trolls trying to pee on something which mocks their prejudices. Yeah, it's got echoes of Philip K. Dick, and that's a good thing.

Great stories! Well-written, imaginative, yet full of subtle truths and hints of hope for the future. Full disclosure: I am not completely done reading the book because I am reading it with my mother who reads at a slower pace, but we both are enjoying the sharp wit, and hilarious scenarios that encompass the bizarre times we live in. We'll both be sorry when we complete the book so we are cherishing each story and hope that the many great authors will go on to write other books of a similar nature.

A remarkable collection of stories with a fascinating and well executed conceit. There were some stories I loved! (Lise McClendon, Kate Flora and Adam Lance Garcia wrote three of my favorites.) A couple that were not my cup of tea, but overall a great collection.

These short stories were a great, mind-bending, imaginative trip, and the The Obama Inheritance book cover itself is worth the purchase price. Conspiracy theories conjured during Obama's terms as President, on their own, were nutty and off the rails of reality. The authors take the conspiracy theories and thrust them into another dimension, resulting in thought provoking tales of action, fear, comedy, despair and hope.

This is going to be a Christmas present. It looks good when I flipped through it.

About the Author

Warwick Anderson is an Australian Research Council laureate fellow and a professor in the Department of History and the Center for Values, Ethics, and the Law in Medicine at the University of Sydney. He is the author of The Collectors of Lost Souls: Turning Kuru Scientists into Whitemen, also published by Johns Hopkins. Ian R. Mackay is a research professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Monash University. He is the coauthor of Autoimmune Diseases: Pathogenesis, Chemistry, and Therapy and the coeditor of The Autoimmune Diseases, fifth edition.

Good book.

This book has some interesting parts dealing with the history of the discovery of autoimmunity, and it is competently although not engagingly written. It is pretty scant on details regarding the pathology, or even the specific molecular markers and targets of the many diseases. It is also disappointing that the work of several luminaries is dismissed without much discussion of what they actually proposed. For example, the lack of discussion of Jerne, who won the Nobel Prize for his work, which was highly respected at the time but now is thought not really relevant to the understanding of Immunology. Amusingly, the authors refer to the work of Gadjusek in complement fixation, then dismissively state he went on to propose some vague genetic explanation for Kuru, a disease in a native tribe in New Guinea. Whether one respects what he found or not, it did win the Nobel Prize, and it was not a vague genetic disease, but appeared to be a slow virus that was transmitted through cannibalism. The final section of the book is a waste of time. It attempts to inject philosophy into the self- not-self question. This was pure sophistry. Finally, the book proper is actually less than half the total pages, which include a very extensive bibliography and index. The bibliography stands alone, as the cited works are not referenced in the text. Most curious.

A must read for anyone interested in the history of immunology - beautifully written

In his latest book Anderson (along with McKay) again brilliantly straddles the chasm that often exists between science and the public understanding of it. By making disease both deeply personal and yet retaining a narrative that is both scientifically literate and philosophically stimulating he again pulls of a remarkable feat-a book that thoroughly satisfies the expert and lay person. I loved his book on kuru for the same reasons. A must read for a wide range of intelligent minds.

This book makes a uniquely wonderful, learned and readily readable contribution to the medical, scientific, historical, social and literary underpinnings of autoimmunity and its discontents, and will keep the reader's attention and improve his or her knowledge throughout. I highly commend it to both the specialist and general reader.

I was looking forward to reading this book because I like immunology. I was very disappointed. The language is stilted and there is too much philosophy and not enough immunology. There is very little information about the scientists as people. While the book started slowly, I was hoping that it would improve or that I would get more used to the authors' style as I progressed through the book. Alas this didn't happen and I stopped reading the book about halfway through. I cannot recommend this book.

I’m a young aunt, soon to be 19 in a few months, and I have this amazing 10 year old girl for a niece who I’ve always cared for but never managed to create a close and understanding bond with. She has yet to get diagnosed but my sister and I are hopeful. After reading only a chapter of this book, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that my niece is absolutelty dyspraxic.Reading about all the troubles she’ll most likely face hurts and fills me with nerves but the book is wonderfully packed with suggestions, tips and advice. I feel that I am better equipped to support her and I hope I can become an adequate person to stand beside her.I suggest this book to anyone who wants a better understanding of dyspraxia and teachers as well, because I’m also pursuing a career in education I looked at the book’s contents as a means of insight on how to improve the learning experience for everybody.

This book was very illuminating. My daughter was diagnosed with dyspraxia a few years ago, but now that she is 12 years old, this book perfectly fits her current situation. I will be reading it with her so she can know she is not alone and to give her coping strategies. This book is humorous, straight-forward, and informative. Everyone who is a teacher should read this to help them understand what life is like for a child with dyspraxia. It would also be very helpful for relatives. The author's voice is clear and entertaining and shines a bright light on what it is like to have this disorder. Great book!

Written by a young lady who is there - and the road to identifying the disorder. She talks to young people especially, but as a grandparent trying to help a child - this hits the mark. the falls and fractures, the embarrassments the frustrations and feelings of isolation because of being different ... and more. She offers suggestions, shares excerpts from letters of other young people and discusses getting an education. Overall is the encouragement You Are Great and while different You have special Gifts others might have missed out getting.

bought this book for teenager and it kept the questions going. Definitely helps introduce learning to understand meanings of things through context clues, the story is good, has one or two curse words however. She enjoyed reading the book though...which is always a good thing and she was able to RELATE to the person in the story which is even better.

This girl describes dyspraxia so well and with such good grace and humor that it makes her story a good read. She also includes relevant quotes from other kids with dyspraxia.

Finally, a book that tells in simple terms what being Dyspraxic is all about. We have a beautiful 7 year old grandchild that is challenged by this condition. This book has given us wonderful ideas on how to make her life easier and help her along the way. This is a "must read" for families who have been touched by Dyspraxia.

A family member is dyspraxic, & this book gave me a better understanding of some of the struggles she faces.

Vickie is a godsend for those of us with Dyspraxic children. We've used this to introduce ideas and approaches with family and friends, as well as, gain a deeper understanding of this challange from the stance of the affected. Although the writting is sometimes a little quirky it's a funny and easy look into the life of the dyspraxic.

When I purchased the book, I realized what I would be reading. I found the beginning fairly ridiculous even for a YA romance in that Ashley couldn't figure out who "British Boy" was. Luke must be a true masculine Meryl Streep to pull off an accent to fool Ashley so completely.But, I have to admit I found both characters extremely appealing and how they grew closer together over time. Another aspect is that the book was not overcrowded with an excess of characters who have their own love story in the next two books. Often an abundance are thrown in and causes the reader to really start skimming.I honestly felt this was Luke's story. He had the most sadness and grief that he took out on Ashley as a way to deal with his life. However, Luke's behavior and true feelings toward Ashley seem to drive the story toward its goal. Ashley turned out to be the one person he could share his pain with who actually cared.Ms Corry created a warm and loving rapport between Luke and Ashley.I like how the story is told from the two POVs so the reader realizes how the two feel at specific moments.I liked that there was not too much angst that often appear in YA romances.The ending really matures into a truly satisfying HEA.

I’m pretty sure this is my first book by Judy Corry, and I don’t think it will be my last. This is also the first book I’ve read in a while that I bought on a whim. I think I saw the cover or a teaser or something on Twitter, clicked the link for Amazon, skimmed the preview, and the next thing I know I’d one clicked.I’m sure glad I did, too, because Meet Me There was an absolute treat! My Kindle read this to me over the course of two days (probably 6.5 hours?) at work. (Yeah, I know, my job is amazing.)I bought the book because the concept reeled me in. A couple of teens who have had a prank rivalry going on? Sound awesome! A British accent? Like 99% of all American girls, I swooned a little.So yeah, you’ve got Ashlyn the dancer who’s falling for this mystery British boy, and you’ve got Luke, the cute football player who’s always pranking her and also pretending to be said British boy. As they’re falling for each other with his pretend identity, she’s enlisted to teach him to dance for a fundraiser event. Obviously hijinks and swoon-worthy moments are going to ensure.Seriously though, scroll up and read the blurb if you skipped it. This book is absolutely adorable and is pretty much guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face. I wish I had written this book. Wait, no, I don’t. Because then I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of reading this book. But really, if you love sweet romance stories featuring realistic characters with steamy chemistry, give this book a try.Once I’m caught up on my backlist a little more I’m sure I’ll somehow find my way back to Amazon to pick up the second book in this series, Don’t Forget Me.

I almost stopped reading a few chapters into the book. The writing just seemed poor. The author told us what the characters felt instead of describing their thoughts and letting us feel it ourselves. Also, the characters felt very tedious and two dimensional in the beginning. But I kept reading and I'm glad I did, 'cos it got much better. It has a nice development of the characters and their feelings for each other. However, the sudden change of romantic interest in the ending of the book just seemed really weird and forced to me. It just doesn't work like that. Anyway, it was still a good read and I'm rounding the 3,5 stars up to 4 stars for an overall nice read.

Cute clean book. I love Judy Corry's books. I heard this was available and had to get it. I read it in one day. I love the duel point of view.Luke started pranking Ashlyn in the cooking class they shared the school year before and it turned into a war. The first day of the year looks like it is going to be more of the same. Starting with a Boyfriend Wanted poster for Ashlyn. Things turn interesting when Ashlyn trips over Luke's feet trying to hide in a empty dark class room. Luke is hiding from sympathetic looks and Ashlyn is hiding from her ex-boyfriend. Luke thinks Ashlyn is crying because of the poster and doesn't want her to know who he is so he uses his talent for voice interpretations to become British. Is it going to be the biggest prank or will it turn into something else? What follows is funny, sweet, heart breaking and awesome.

Pretty fun! The general premise requires a heavy dose of suspension-of-disbelief, but the execution proved *just* dramatic enough to sweep me up in the excitement without being angsty. And I liked the characters! (I'm not a YA, so those are lofty praises.)Two things that bothered me--the Big Reveal was in kind of a peaceful moment, when I was expecting it to be a climax! It could've been used to build up much better narrative tension. I think that part would've been better from Ashlyn's POV, too, because her 'betrayed' perspective would've been more compelling.The other thing was a lot of on-the-nose dialogue, mostly from Ashlyn. It was so bad in the last chapter and epilogue that I skimmed to the end. It oscillated between sincerely sweet, and cringey. That's got to be a difficult thing to balance.But I'd still recommend! I have the next book in the series already and I'm going to go ahead and read it.

I really loved this book- the story had more depth than I expected and our two main characters were so likable and relatable. I loved how each chapter transitioned from one character’s first person perspective to the other’s. There was a sweet clean romance that I fell in love with and can’t wait to read more by this author!
