Eric Carle is acclaimed and beloved as the creator of brilliantly illustrated and innovatively designed picture books for very young children. I love Eric Carle as do my children. We probably own all his books. This is the most disappointing one. The artwork is still stunning, however this book of shapes includes things that are not really shapes -- and especially not shapes a young children, who the book is intended for, is going to know/understand. I originally purchased this to teach my kid different shapes, but this is not a good book for that. It's nice to look at and enjoy, but not nearly as educational as I had hoped. So, if you are getting this book to try to teach your kid shapes: skip it. If you are getting this book because to enjoy as a book: awesome!

I bought this book for my 21 month old because I am interested in teaching her about shapes. It may be more appropriate for an older child. The book is split horizontally on the inside, separating pages between solid shapes on the top page (i.e. a solid black circle) and shape objects on the bottom page (i.e. a yellow sun). The idea is to flip back and forth until you match the top shape and bottom object by shape. My toddler quickly loses interest and some of the shapes are a bit advanced (crescent, oval, etc.). I appreciate this book as a teaching tool and like the fact that it includes a game, but it does not hold the attention of my toddler, and she is a child who loves books. Hopefully she will grow into it!

I feel like the books is geared more towards preschool age instead of toddler. The book is split inside and the shape on top does not match the shape on the bottom. I know for older kids it would be fun for them to help match the top and bottom but for ones on the younger end it's a little confusing.

I bought this for my niece who is pregnant. Instead of a card for the shower we are signing the book for the baby. This is a great first book for baby as it is sturdy and cannot be ripped!

Confusing because the bottom portion that shows the shapes in "real life" don't match the shape being described in the upper portion of the book. Pictures are beautiful though....

Eric Carle books are the best! The board book is quality, good size for baby hands and printed very clear. We have a variety of his books and our baby loves them!

Great book, I love the real life application of shapes and the bilingual aspect. My daughter enjoys reading it and I enjoy her learning at the same time.

It is a little to advanced for my two year old. But I know she will grow into it.
