Prior to purchasing this book, I read another one of Leslie Nielsen's extremely funny "how to" golf books, which I absolutely loved (and which is hysterically funny), so I thought I would try this one as well. Warning: This little book is only for people who have a very high sense of humor about golf and life (and who are willing to really laugh at the sport and its funny and often quaint rules, idiosyncracies and traditions), not for people who take the game too seriously.
I bought this book for my boyfriend who's recently started golfing. He has loved the way that Nielson combines humor and instruction to provide for not only an informative read, but also an entertaining one. Definitely a good purchase for someone who wants to know a little more about the game, but isn't looking for a very serious and mundane of a read.
I got it for my son for his birthday. He loved it!!
Leslie Nielson was a very funny guy. After seeing him for years in serious roles, it was a pleasure to see him let loose in Airplane and the Naked Gun movies. This book adds to his comedic expertise. A must have for every golfer.
Last week in the golf league, I knew that with my recent bad play and my opponent's recent good play, the only chance I had was to use the advice from "Leslie Nielson's Stupid Little Golf Book" and make sure that rather than trying to play up to his level, I needed to convince him to play down to mine. Just little things like putting at the same practice hole as him during warm ups, "forgetting" how many strokes I currently have on a hole, reminding him that he has never been this close to the green on this hole in two strokes before, and asking him as he's about to putt if that shadow on the green is bothering him. None of the little needles mean much, but over the course of the match they add up, and by time he realized what I was doing it was too late and even more effective once he thought everything I did was an attempt to derail his game. When it was over, I brought his score up 10 strokes over his recent games and allowed me to walk away with some of the points. I made sure everyone in the clubhouse knew what I had done, and this week, my next opponent self-destructed as soon as I mentioned that I had plans to get inside his head as well.Don't waste your time trying to play better than your opponent, make him play worse than you.Thank you Leslie!
