Review

'These are very clearly described and pictured, and there are examples of simple figures and some quite complicated. Some can be used in the telling of a story and others have a poem accompanying them; there is much potential for use across a wide range from playgroup to adult, and indeed some shapes have been invented by children themselves. The sense of achievement when the desired result is reached is very satisfying! ... It can be addictive: back to Jacob's Ladder ...'– The School Librarian 'The cat's cradle craze keeps popping up and this is the whole works. We start with a simple flag across our fingers and end up with wearable art. It can be an individual or a group activity - see the Five Person Star! There are even rhymes and stories to tell as you illustrate them in string. There are some scholarly notes which show how string games are part of many different cultures. An excellent 'cross-generational' book.'– Carousel 'Children today sometimes miss out on traditional pursuits so it is always good to find a book that offers something a little different. This project book, complete with colourful string, is a great resource giving readers the chance to play games, make pictures and act out stories - all using string. Diagrams for over 80 activities are fairly easy to follow, even for an instruction phobic parent!'– The Green Parent 'Do you remember playing Cat's Cradle as a child? A new book - Finger Strings by Michael Taylor - offers step by step instructions for finger string games and comes with two strings. Why not relearn your skills and teach them to your children or grandchildren - or use them as an ice-breaker at a party?'– Woman Alive Magazine

Got this for my 1st grader. He does string games in School (Waldorf School) he loves doing them and wanted to go faster learning them then they are in class. It has lots and lots of fun ones. Love how so many have fun stories to tell as you do them! Only thing is I wish you could tell what to do better with out reading them but you really have to read it and use the pics to figure them out. But the reason I only gave it 4 stars is because we have found a few that were very hard to figure out because parts of the instructions are not complete. But I would buy it again if ours gets lost.

This book is really great! I got it for me to replace an older book written by another author. This book has really easy to understand directions and the stories are perfect for younger kids. My seven-year-old son also used the book and it was perfect for him to understand. The strings included are perfect although a little bit slick making some of the tricks a little bit harder.

Says comes with 2 strings, but my copy didn't. Otherwise, it looks as if it instructions are easy enough for my nine year old grandson to comprehend and enjoy.

My kids are Waldorf (Wikipedia that) schooled, so this is the perfect project for them. They love making the different things from their strings, they work together on them (they are 7 and 10) and help each other do them. Especially the older one helping the younger one get her fingers in the right position to pull off the more complicated items. One of the best purchases I've ever made for them. Stop letting your kids play video games and give them something do in the real world.

I am eight years old I like doing things a string tricks I like how you made a book to teach you I also like how you put in directions but directions would be better if they were so complicated Think you should make the price more cheap I still like the book

I love to do string figures, and this is a book I return to over and over. It has just the right blend of beginner and advanced figures. The illustrations are clear and easy to follow. If you're just learning or if it's for a younger child, then the Klutz book is best. But this book is wonderful if you already know some basics and want to do more (both for older children and adults). I have had great fun using this with nieces and nephews ages 9-14.

String is to thick causing it to be difficult for smaller hands. Decent enough book. Although youtube is a much better resource for cats cradle :)

The 8 year old girl I got this for is very smart and I thought she would love to learn how to do this. She is still learning how to do some of them but she wants to learn all by her self. It has very good directions on how to do them.
