Well written and interesting, but only half the story. I bought this because I remembered that they made a movie out of it. Unless you want to pay for more of the story, pass this one by.
This book is well written, smooth flowing and easy to read. It is a quick read. The characters, their emotions and the experiences they go through are depicted extremely well.The main character of the book is Susan Wade. Susan was born and raised in North Carolina. As soon as she graduates college she is off to bigger and better things. She despises everything about the south and is determined to put as much distance between her and the south as possible. She accepts a partial scholarship to a college in Chicago, IL. She is determined to work her butt off to make good grades and do what is necessary to get the kind of job she has always dreamed about. Double majoring and working full time doesn't leave much time for fun, but it is a sacrifice she is willing to make. Will all of her hard work pay off? Will she be able to get her dream job, or any job, fresh out of college?I really enjoyed this book. Susan's personality, attitudeand snarky comments kept me reading wanting to see what would happen next. I laughed, giggled, held my breath, and felt so many different emotions while reading the book. After being in a bit of a reading slump it was exactly what I needed.I look forward to reading The Carrot to find out how the story will continue.I Dream of Books
A fabulous read laced with great characters, humor, and insight. Susan knows what she wants and is not afraid of working hard to get it. It’s her last semester of college and as she walks through the mine fields of graduation, job applications, personal relationships, and job interviews, she learns some major truths about herself, and those around her.
This story was neither funny nor romantic. The guy the h is dating in college dumps her at the end of the story. They are graduating and she accepted a job in a different state from where his job will be located. He spends the night with another woman after he finds out about the h's new job and then ask the h if they can still be friends.The h appears to be successful and climbing the corporate ladder five years later. The book ends with the h spending time with a man who can further her career and he tells her that his place is close by. She leaves with him leading me to believe she may gain a few rungs on the ladder working on her back. Her career continues into the next book.Not my cup of tea.
Virginia Gray is a great writer. 'The Interview' had me so hooked that I read it from start to finish in one sitting. The plot flows perfectly. Love the characters and the dialogue between them that keeps you laughing almost non-stop. The main character, Susan Wade, somehow gets it together even with the bumbling events that take place as she strives for an interview with a top company. Susan's interactions with her roommate and with an unlucky barrister at a coffee shop are priceless, so funny and witty. You will find 'The Interview' positively entertaining, as is Virginia's other book which is 'The Carrot', a continuation of Susan Wade's adventures as she navigates the corporate world. I once said 'The Carrot' is one of the best books I have read this year, and will say the same about 'The Interview'. Whether the reader is male or female, 'The Interview' and 'The Carrot' are a total joy to read.
After reading and thoroughly enjoying “The Carrot,†I wanted more of Susan Wade—her wit, her sarcasm, and especially her motivators. “The Interview†did not disappoint. I laughed out loud so many times as Susan, a college senior, traversed the precarious world of job interviews, jealous co-eds, and hurt feelings while she searched for her dream job. The family and social influences along the way drew me into Susan’s world even more and lent a level of compassion for Ms. Wade. The author does a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life through descriptive details and situations to which the reader can easily relate. I love a story that can make me laugh, and just thinking about this one puts a smile on my face. It’s difficult not to get hooked on this saga, and I can’t wait for book three!
Right away, I was overjoyed by Susan’s wry and witty candor as she recited her mock interview spiel in front of the bathroom mirror. What do I do in my spare time? Well, when I’m not doling out gruel to starving children in Africa, I am an astrophysicist. What a hoot!She is a college student approaching graduation and is frantically in pursuit of a job that will launch her to her power-driven career. To her, success meant financial freedom and a life of excess (a beautiful apartment, fine clothing, and a hot car.)The thing is that most Fortune 500 companies are not too eager to hire an inexperienced kid right out of college.I liked how relatable she was. She had a young, fresh-faced, “eager to take the world by storm†attitude, but she was also grounded in reality, which brought out her sarcastic humor. With only $200 in her savings and student loans itching to come after her after graduation, she’d take almost anything, but, still, she wasn’t going to work for free (unpaid internship.) Of course, being bugged by the meddling Brittneys—those perky, pretty blondes always got the boys, the friends, and anything else they wanted—only added to her angst as well as her derisive commentaries. You feel her tenacity and frustrations.Overall, I enjoyed Susan’s quest to climb the corporate ladders; however, I thought her story was a little juvenile at times, especially with her run-ins with the mean girls. Sometimes I wished she would just chill out about this whole corporate fantasy of hers. But I think that most readers would gain some insight from this character. A decent read.
Quick and funny read. I will definitely be moving on to the next book.Susan is an independent and strong woman who knows what she wants and goes after it. I really enjoyed reading this book!
